Most NSW COVID cases occur in households

The NSW government will urgently boost its isolation accommodation after the majority of new COVID cases were caused by household transmission.

In the past two weeks, 70 per cent of infections occurred in homes - a figure health officials say reflects the general trend of the Sydney outbreak.

A fifth hotel will be opened - on top of the Meriton Suites already being used - to house people who can't safely isolate.

Almost 1,000 people were staying in just one of the four current sites across the inner city last week.
