Ukrainians push Russian forces back in Mikolaiv because 'they can't become another Mariupol'

The fighting between Ukrainian and Russian troops continues to be fought forty kilometers from the southern city of Mikolaiv, which has been resisting the Russian attack for weeks and is shielding "not to be a new Mariรบpol".

The city, where half a million people lived before the war, suffered a missile attack on Tuesday that hit the nine-story regional administration building, where bodies are still being found.

The spokesman of the Ukrainian army in Mikolaiv, Dimitri Pletenchuk said:

"We are preparing defences, we are not leaving the city, our Army is doing everything possible so that Mikolaiv is not a new Mariupol.

It is not as dangerous as before because at some point the Russian troops were on the outskirts of Mikolaiv and now we have pushed them back.

But according to the law of war, when the enemies cannot conquer you they resort to acts of terrorism, it is a tactic of the Russians, they bombard us from a distance and in this way they are trying to strengthen the position of the Russian negotiating team.

Now they are in the area between Kherson and Mikolaiv where there is intense fighting 40 kilometers from Mikolaiv.

We have sent them 40 kilometers from Mikolaiv but they are under artillery so we also have some wounded in the bombing in our hospitals."
