Common questions:
1. How long does simple syrup last? Up to 1 month.
2. How much does a 1:1 recipe make? 250 grams of water and 250 grams of sugar makes approximately 400ml of simple syrup.
3. Why measure by weight? Sugar isn't as dense as water so measuring by volume will result in a less-sweet syrup.
4. Does it have to be heated? No. You can dissolve sugar in water with either a 1:1 ratio which takes up to 15 mins to dissolve or a 2:1 ratio which takes up to 45 mins dissolve. NOT heating it results in a more viscous syrup as it doesn't break down the molecules, although the shelf life may be restricted as the heat helps to kill off bacteria.
5. What is rich syrup? Rich syrup is a sugar syrup with a 2:1 ratio (2 parts sugar to 1 part water)
6. How long does rich syrup last? Up to 6 months.
