Weaponized Ignorance| Gender Roles and Household Tasks such as Grocery Shopping
Happy Vlogtober 2021! Let’s have a little girl talk about marriage and gender roles… Ya’ll know I do the weekly grocery shopping and grocery hauls for my house and I enjoy going to some of the nice grocery stores like Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods, but what happens when I don’t feel like doing the grocery haul. There’s been a lot of chatter on Instagram & Facebook about the hot topic of not being able to send men to the grocery store. Some women say they can’t do the grocery hauls because of “weaponized incompetence” so I’m here to talk about that today. Gender roles usually keep women in the kitchen and doing the majority of the housework, so how difficult is it for husbands and male partners to fulfill these household duties when the woman can’t? Research has shown being a working mother is equal to working 2.5 full-time jobs. Are men truly horrible at grocery shopping, cleaning, and taking care of household chores, or are they simply faking like they don’t know what they’re doing so they won’t be asked to do it again in the future.
