Last summer I managed to find an European hornet's nest in our garden. It was situated in an old apple tree near our neighbour's house. Since I own a suit for beekeepers, I packed my gear and spent a few hours filming these scary creatures. Despite their bad reputation, they are always quite friendly. Just remain calm, do not make any fast movements near the nest, and you can observe (or film) them without getting hurt. Also there is no need to destroy a hornets' nest when you find it in your backyard. European hornets are not aggressive, they do not attack unless threatened, and they never come to taste your lunch like other wasp species do.
