Noun + のついでに

while, incidentally, at the same time, on the way
While ながらis used to refer to generally doing action A while doing action B, ついでにimplies that whoever is performing the actions is taking the opportunity to do action B while doing action A.

Same as ~する時、その機会を利用して…もする。

私は近くのコンビニに行きながら、犬の散歩をしました。
I took my dog for a walk while going to a convenience store nearby.
私は近くのコンビニに行ったついでに、犬の散歩をしました。
On the occasion I went to a convenience store nearby, I took my dog for a walk.

Verbたform+ ついでに

明日は映画を見るついでに、おいしいものを食べて帰ろう。
Tomorrow, while watching a movie, I think I will (take the opportunity to) eat delicious food and go home.

会社に行くついでに、ゴミを捨てて来てください。
Please throw away the trash (at the same time) on the way of going to your office.

辞書で単語の意味を調べたついでに、使い方も調べておきました。

Noun + のついでに

新しい家への引っ越しのついでに、新しい家具を買おうと思います。
I think I will (take the opportunity to) buy new furniture while I'm moving to a new house.

This year's New Year, while going to the first shrine visit of the New Year, I also (took the opportunity to) tried to pull a fortune slip.

Phrase + ついでに + phrase

The extra action goes at the end of the sentence – after ついでに.
It also implies that action B is related somehow to action A, the primary action. With this way of phrasing, ついでに makes the action B request sound more doable since it is not out of the way from doing action A.

「コンビニ行ってくるね!」
I'm going to a convenience store!
「コンビニに行くなら、ついでにお茶も買ってきてくれない?」
If you go to a convenience store, can you buy some tea as well?

「この資料をコピーしますね!」
I will copy this material!
「すみません、ついでにこれもお願いします。」
Sorry but can you copy this as well?
