While severe allergic responses to rabbits are uncommon, moderate allergies are commonly cited as one of the main reasons bunnies are surrendered to shelters and rescues. The proteins in your rabbit's saliva remaining on his fur after grooming himself are often what irritates him, not the fur itself. Taking efforts to decrease the likelihood of experiencing allergy symptoms before they occur can allow you and your rabbit to cohabit happily.
Your rabbit most likely carried some baggage with him when he came in, which has nothing to do with the doe next door. While allergic responses to rabbits are conceivable, the environment is often disregarded as the source of itchy skin, wheezing, runny noses, and watery eyes. Before blaming your rabbit, use the process of elimination to rule out other probable culprits.
