Security camera video being widely circulated online shows a burglar in Hong Kong using a bamboo pole fitted with a metal hook to steal a handbag from a 10th-floor flat on the afternoon of August 22, 2021. The masked man appears to be standing on construction scaffolding outside the living room window of the apartment at Tung Ming Mansion in Sham Shui Po. In about 45 seconds, the burglar manages to direct the home-made tool through security bars on the window before a tenant in the flat notices moments too late to stop him. The handbag reportedly had about HK$1,200 (US$150) in cash as well as bank cards and the owner's Hong Kong identity card. The burglar escaped after climbing down the scaffolding, and police say they have made no arrests so far in the case.
