CISCE to conduct exams twice in 2022; reduces syllabus
NEW DELHI: The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations
(CISCE), which conducts the ICSE (Class X) and ISC (Class XII) board
examinations has decided to bifurcate each of the exams into two
semesters, with the first semester exams to be conducted in November
this year in online mode and the second semester in March/April 2022
either online or offline, depending on the Covid numbers.
The Academic Session 2021-22 will be divided into two semesters, with
approximately 50% of the syllabus being covered in each semester.
The CISCE will conduct the examinations at the end of each semester. The first-semester examination will be conducted in
November 2021 and will be based only on the portion of the syllabus specified for the first semester. This will be an MCQ
based examination, which will be conducted online.
The second-semester examinations will be conducted in March/April 2022 and will be based only on the portion of the syllabus
specified for the second semester. The examination will be conducted in online/offline mode, depending upon the pandemic
situation in the country.
The question papers of each semester examination will of 80 marks for ICSE and 70 marks for ISC, as per the maximum marks
currently allocated for the theory component of the subjects. However, the weightage of marks to be finally used for
computation of the Board results would be brought down to half.
In addition to the examinations conducted at the end of each of the two semesters during the academic year 2021-22,
candidates will also be assessed on Practical/ Project work at the ISC level. The mark weightage of the same remains
unchanged.
If the situation permits, ISC practicals will be held in school. The council has asked schools to maintain a proper record of these
assessments and said it may even ask schools to send samples of work done by candidates. For ICSE candidates, the internal
assessment will also be taken into account, in addition to semester exams.
Schools will be required to upload marks for practicals, project work, internal assessment and SUPW grades by a specified date
at the end of each semester

The entire year will be divided into two semesters with each having a 50% syllabus. The first semester exams will be held in November and the second-semester exams will be held in March or April. The exam pattern for both exams has been changed. The first semester will be a multiple choice question paper while the second semester will be held on either offline or online mode depending upon the pandemic situation at that time.
