Today we look at passing the guard through the use of a cross-step, cutting past our partner’s double inside hooks. This pass as a "floating" quality to it which you'll understand once you practice it.
You’ll see opportunities for this pass in scramble situations or immediately after the hooks are established, before your ankles are controlled.
We focus on keeping the hips forward, with pressure on the shins from the top, before casting the leg across. The even pressure creates a “smearing” effect, allowing you to slide directly into the cross-side position.
